The Dental Implant Process
The entire implant process is performed over the course of a few months in our Edmond, OK dentist office. The first part of the process is to install the implant itself. Dr. Bumpas will place a titanium post into the jaw bone. An incision is made in the gum so that the implant can be inserted. If necessary, Dr. Bumpas can place multiple implants at once. After the implants are placed the gums are sutured.
During a 3 to 6 month implant healing process, the jaw bone will form around the implant. This is called osseointegration. We can install dental crowns iso that you can eat and speak normally and maintain a proper aesthetic appearance for your smile. After the implant is healed, we place an abutment which serves as the base for your new tooth. One this is placed an impression of the abutment is taken and is used to create your permanent restoration.
Dental Implant FAQs
How do dental implants differ from dentures?
Dentures are a removable set of teeth or partial set of teeth that replace multiple missing teeth. In comparison, dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth that can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. However, dental implants can be used to secure dentures for a more stable and long-lasting restoration.
How much do implants cost?
The price of your dental implants will vary based on how many implants you are having placed, the amount of insurance coverage, and other factors. You may schedule a consultation with Dr. Bumpas to determine a price for your implants and a financing plan if necessary. Following an examination and consultation, we will be able to determine the cost.
Do dental implants hurt?
No, Dr. Bumpas will give you a local anesthetic before the procedure so that you do not feel any pain. If you have anxiety or fear you can discuss sedation options that we offer to patients in our office.
How long do implants last?
If cared for properly, dental implants can last a lifetime. Proper oral hygiene and regular dental visits to our office are essential to the success of your implant.
